Objectives

Students will relate to and connect and transfer by examining and articulating works of art that communicate significant cultural beliefs or sets of values by exploring their own identities and reflect that within the works they create using the sewing machine and available printing techniques that will aid students to investigate how artists, designers such as Iris Van Herpen and Alexander Mcqueen narrate their social context and identities. Students will observe to comprehend by Analyze works of art and apply the language of visual art and design to infer meaning and discussing how exposure to various styles influences feelings and emotions toward art forms by reflecting on their peers works that express their identities using screen printing techniques, sewing, and apparel designs. Students will envision critique and reflect by decoding the meaning in works of art using visual evidence. Doing this, students will learn to interpret art and demonstrate how works of art synthesize historical and personal meaning by utilizing current and available technology (Screenprinting) as a primary medium to create original works of art. (CO VAS: Standard 2 – GLE: Utilize appropriate vocabulary in the critical analysis of works of art -SHOM: Envision and Persist – Art Learning: Art Critique – Technology: screen-printing) 

 

Students will invent to discover and create by Creating works of art from observation, photographs and stored mental images adding personal interpretations. We know students can do this when they Demonstrate technical skills and processes to achieve desired results in the use of the printing, screenprinting, and sewing techniques. Students will utilize current and available technologies such as linoleum blocks, screen printing, sewing machines, etc. to create art works using techniques of 2-D and 3-D art. Students will do this to relate to connect and transfer by exploring ways to manipulate works of art through screen printing technology and design and create works of art using images, words and symbols that illustrate personal community or identity.  Students will relate and connect to transfer by incorporating ideas from social or community activities in works of art and design using the sewing machines, techniques of block printing and resist printing to make a print on paper or fabric.  They will be able to use the printing techniques of creative stitching, applique, and upcycling to make a piece of fiber art that reflects personal aspects of their own individual identities.
